Of the 16 people originally registered for this course 12 have taken the exam. Of these 12 participants 8 have passed. The exam contained 8 problems, most of which were homework problems or, in the case of problem 1, part of a homework problem. The only notable exception was problem 7 (Jump of the heat capacity at the critical point/Sprung der Wärmekapazität am kritischen Punkt). Since most people didn't know how to approach this problem, I decided to not include it in the grading. This means that the official number of problems was reduced to 7 and the original grading scheme was revised (*) to

70 - 60 points  - grade is 1
59 - 51 points  - grade is 2
50 - 42 points -  grade is 3
41 - 33 points - grade is 4
32 and below -  grade is 'fail'
+/- is assigned if the number of points is withing 3 points of the boundary between two grades

(*) the number of points specified in the rules on the first page of the exam is multiplied by 7/8 and the result is rounded to the nearest integer.

However, three students tackled problem 7 and managed to obtain points - one actually got 9 out of 10! The points for problem 7 are not lost! I have added them to a person's final number of points based on the 7 other problems, i.e. in principle it would have been possible to obtain 80 points (10 for each of the official 7 problems and another 10 for problem 7). Thus, everybody gained!

Those of you who want to look at their exams should come to my office. Since I am in my office more than I am out, I believe that no specific 'exam inspection hours' are necessary. You can also write an e-mail if you prefer to fix a specific appointment or if you have some other question. I shall hold on to the above grades until the end of next week (12.8.2022) before forwarding them to Frau Göke (Prüfungsamt).
